About our author:

An honors graduate of the University of South Florida, Shayna Lance has been in the news game in Florida's top radio markets for the past 12 years. She began working with Tampa, FL, icons Hugh Smith and Pat Brooks, then went on to WOKV in Jacksonville, FL, where she won 8 Associated Press awards; including recognition in Breaking News, Investigative Journalism and Individual Achievement. For over 6 years, she was part of the top-rated AM News Talk station WFLA in Tampa, FL. Impassioned about her community, Shayna does hundreds of hours of volunteer work a year. Nearly every week-end, you can find her giving speeches to benefit the Hillsborough Guardian Ad Litem group and the Krew of Libertia (which benefit local underprivileged children). Her first audiobook, Sugar Pop Thoughts, was an "Audie Award" finalist (for "Best Original Work"), and won the "Audiofile Earphone Award".

CoolBeat: What made you write this audiobook?

Shayna: I am really grateful to be surrounded by a great gaggle of gregarious girlfriends (every woman should rent some!) I was licking my wounds after losing a couple years of my life to a relationship I probably never should have been in (who hasn't done that?), and the ladies and I started trading horror stories. Each one of us realized that while we are otherwise smart, accomplished, relatively normal women...we'd all managed to humiliate ourselves over the wrong men at one time or another. The more we traded stories the more we laughed at ourselves. It was pretty obvious there was an hysterical book in all that martini-madness!

CoolBeat: Did you really have a girlfriend like Susan Culver?

Shayna: Susan is a compilation of a few great women I'm lucky enough to have in my life. Most notably: Kim, Sandra and Kristina. As Kim likes to tease, a good friend will bail you out of jail...a great friend will turn to you on the jail cell bench and chuckle, "wasn't that fun?" (That's a joke, we're all law abiding citizens...and until I pass the Florida Bar you can't prove otherwise!!)

CoolBeat: Your sense of you emulate someone?

Shayna: I like to believe I take after my Great Aunt Edna. She has this amazing ability to look at life with amusement. She says a positive attitude and a self-depreciating sense of humor are the keys to a blissful life. It must work because it's gotten her through more than 90 years on this planet without a scratch.

CoolBeat: How did you come up with the names of your characters?

Shayna: When you listen, you'll note that every single name in this novel is taken from the 80's hit The Golden Girls. Some are the names of the actresses (Estelle for instance) some are the names of the women that played them (Sophia for instance) and some are compilations of the names of the people behind the scenes (Susan would be a good example.) I really wanted to make this book a true treat for the listener. Like enjoying a big, pink ball of cotton candy. Just a nice release and good 'ol ball of belly laughs.

CoolBeat: What author(s) do you like?

Shayna: The authors I don't like would be a shorter list!
